Rex (Bud) Leon Brooks Jr., 81, of Coralville, died Wednesday March 18, 2009 in the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics following a short illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by Pastor Bob Westfall of New Covenant Bible Church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 3-5 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include his children, Debra Brooks of Walford, Denice Moore of Pierre, South Dakota, Dawn Brooks of Sparks, Nevada, Delene Brooks-Meyer (Joe) of Robins, and Danette Brooks of Cedar Rapids, a sister, Shirley Sachs of Prairie Village, Kansas, a sister-in-law, Liz Brooks of Des Moines, 11 grandchildren, Brei Beam, Ben Balvanz, Byran (Tracey) Balvanz, Jerry (Kerry) Furness, Heather Kelly, Joshua (Amy) Moore, Jonathan Moore, Brandi Brooks and fiancé Nelson Evans, Megan Smith, Sarah Meyer, Lauren Meyer, 13 great grandchildren, Bradley Beam, Hailey Beam, Nicholas Beam, Helen Balvanz, Miah Furness, Jack Furness, Drew Gooden, Blaine Jeffries, Payton Kelly, Jayden Moore, Ava Moore, Alex Young, and Braylon Evans.

He was preceded in by his parents and a daughter, Dana and brother Richard D. Brooks.

Rex was born April 1, 1927 in Allerton, Iowa, the son of Rex and Myra Rose Brooks. He married Phyllis Harman on July 12, 1951 in Galva, Illinois. They later divorced and remained friends. Rex worked for Nutrina Mills, Midwest Janitorial and the United States Postal Service. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was an avid Hawkeye Fan, loved college basketball and was co-captain of the University of Iowa Gymnastics Team. Rex enjoyed music, history, the great outdoors and keeping in shape by exercise. He will be remembered for his love of family and deep faith. Although his journey on earth has ended, we rejoice in knowing that his heavenly journey has just began.
