Memorial

Marilyn L. Jonas, 85, of 1112 Woodlark Lane NW, died at St. Luke’s Hospital on Friday, March13, 2009, after a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by the Rev. Robin Tyner of Stonebridge Church. Interment: Linwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Survivors include her children, Randy (Michelle) Jonas, Ron (Karole) Jonas, and Jamie (Yvonne) Jonas, all of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Ethan, Melanie, Spenser, Megan, Ryan, Emily, and Kylie; great grandchildren, Cassie, Caitie, and Courtney; and her special card playing friends.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell; and son, Ricky.

Marilyn was born July 23, 1923 in Oxford to John and Helen Tomash. She married Russell Louis Jonas on March 6, 1955 in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1995. Marilyn worked at Peoples Bank and Trust for over 34 years, retiring in 1988. She became a vice president in 1981. She was very proud of her accomplishments in banking and was a member of the Professional Women in Banking. She loved her family and was proud of them. She loved to watch her grandchildren in their various activities. She liked to play Bridge and Poker, and garden – especially her prize roses. She was a fan of the Hawkeyes and Cubs.

Marilyn will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. The family would like to thank the staff and doctors of St. Luke’s ICU, the palliative care team and Dr. James Bell for the wonderful care given to Marilyn.

Marilyn lived her life serving others and at the end of her life, during her hospitalization, she chose to trust Christ. The family is confident that she is enjoying God’s presence.

Memorials may be made to Camp Courageous.
