Memorial

Elaine A. Butters, 88, of 920 7th Street SE, died February 23, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital following an extended illness. Per Elaine’s request no services will be held. Private Inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include her daughter Joanne Claypool of Marion; granddaughter Dianne (Perry) Cook of Waukee, IA and her 3 children; grandson Gary (Dorothy) Claypool of Columbia, MO and their 5 children and 9 grandchildren; brother Sam (Edith) Travagiakis of Cedar Rapids; sisters Irene Minor of Marion, Florence Anderson of Oklahoma, and Victoria Nestas of Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Stan, brother Tony (Rose) Travagiakis, two grandchildren, and several extended family members.

Elaine A. Butters was born March 30, 1920 in Cherokee, Iowa the daughter of James and Edna Mae (Hill) Travagiakis. She married Stanley D. Butters on April 5, 1938 in Cedar Rapids. He preceded her in death in 1990. She was employed for several years at Collins Radio, while also assisting her husband’s business, Butter’s Construction. Elaine, with Stan, enjoyed bowling in several leagues, activities at the VFW, traveling to Arizona, and spending time outdoors. She also enjoyed all types of wild life, mushroom hunting, reading about history and archeology, knitting and crocheting, and many television shows. Above all, her greatest enjoyment was time spent with her family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the many that assisted Elaine, especially her close friends Hod and Maryann Gates of Springville, close brother-in-law Rudy Butters of California, and sister-in-law Gerry (Harold) Lanning of Toddville.
