Memorial
Richard Alan Schade, 86, a resident at Hiawatha Care Center went to be with his Lord on Sunday February 15, 2009 after a lengthy illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Friday. Burial: Linwood Cemetery. A luncheon will be at the church following the service.
Born July 17, 1922 to Carl and Elizabeth Schade, Richard was raised in the Cedar Rapids area, graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1940. Richard served 3 years in the United States Navy, in the Medical Corp during World War II. Plus an additional 18 months in the United States Marine Corp.
Richard married Ardis Ford on April 17, 1948 in Cedar Rapids. They had one son, David. He passed away in July of 1981, at the age of 33. Ardis passed on April 21, 2003 after 55 years of marriage. Richard worked for Mercy Medical Center for 39 years, first as an orderly and then as an Inhalation Therapist until his retirement in 1984. Richard’s wife, son, mother, father, 2 brothers, a sister preceded him in death.
Richard is survived by his grandchildren, Dennis Schade of California, Kristine (Arron) McCannon, Karen, Mellisa and Ashley Schade, Tytan and Riley, daughter-in-law, Diane Schade all of Cedar Rapids, and granddaughter-in-law, Claudia Schade of California, great grandchildren, Austin and Cole. Also surviving are 4 nieces and 3 nephews, sisters-in-law, Daylene Ford, and special friends Zip and Ed.
Richard loved little children and volunteered many hours at Harrison School helping the children learn, earning him many rewards and friendships along the way. Richard was a loving, kind and gentle man who was loved by all who knew him. He will truly be missed.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to First Lutheran Church, Miracles in Motion, Make A Wish Foundation or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Richard’s Name.
