Vernon L. “Mike” Meisinger, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday February 13, 2009 after a five year battle with cancer. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church by the Rev. David O’Connor. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m., where a vigil service will be held at 6:30 p.m.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary; three sons, Michael of Parker, Colorado, Robert (Julie) of Cedar Rapids, Kenneth (Kathy) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and one daughter, Susan (John) Morgan of Parker, Colorado; two brothers, Willard and Earl of Norfolk, Nebraska; and six grandchildren, Patrick, Megan, Matthew, Alison, Kayla, and Charlie. His parents, a sister, LaVerna, and two brothers, LeRoy and Arlan, preceded him in death.
Mike was born February 8, 1933 to Ernest and Emma Meisinger in Madison, Nebraska. He married Rosemary Bender, November 21, 1956 in Norfolk, Nebraska. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict and graduated from Iowa State University in 1960 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He worked in sales management for 28 years with FMC Link-Belt and for 7 years with Highway Equipment Company.
Mike was an avid reader and golfer, who enjoyed exchanging friendly banter with his fellow retirees over breakfast at Hy-Vee and Perkins. Mike will be missed immensely and will be remembered most for his great sense of humor, his caring ways, and his dedication to family and friends.
