Jim is survived by Patricia (Leoni), his wife, their daughters Laurie (Rick) Parker of Cedar Rapids, Karen (Carl) Cromwell of Hamilton, New Jersey, and Teri (Pat) Schloss of Winthrop, his sister Marilynn (Jack) Renz of Newark, Delaware, a brother Dean (Maria) Cain of Rancho Cucamonga, California, 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and Willie his cat.

Jim was born August 15, 1936 in Dubuque, IA. He graduated from Dubuque Senior High School in 1954 and attended the University of Iowa. He served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1959, and was an active naval reservist from 1961 – 1965. In 1960 he began a career as a pipe fitter (refrigeration division) and was a member of the Plumbers and Pipe fitters Union Local 125 and retired in 2000.

With a passion for anything with wheels or wings from an early age, Jim lived life to the fullest in his pursuit of each. As an avid flyer, he logged many hours of flight time in small aircraft. He was a lifetime member of the Harley Owners Group. He toured 44 states on their motorcycle with Patsy riding along for over 200,000 miles. Jim and Patsy spent the past few years camping and enjoying the outdoors together.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Rasa Buntinas, Marci, and the doctors and staff of the Iowa Blood and Cancer Center, Mercy Treatment Center staff, Hospice of Mercy and his good friend Russ Hradek.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Hospice of Mercy in Cedar Rapids.
