Fred Wesley Foster Jr., 83, of 2119 D Ave NE, died Tuesday, February 3, 2009, in his home following a long illness. Funeral Mass with military honors will be held at 10 AM Saturday in St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. Rev. Mark Osterhaus will officiate. Entombment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 3 to 7 PM Friday with a Vigil service beginning at 6 PM.

Survivors include his wife Eileen, their children Patricia (Edward) Glenn of Louisiana, Missouri, Thomas (Kathy) Foster of Urbandale, Iowa, Luanne Hill of Louisville, Colorado, and Linda (Dave) Crowley of Iowa City, Iowa, a sister Donna (J.) Graham of Enterprise, Mississippi, two brothers Steve (Lil) Foster of Canyon City, Texas, and Ted Foster of Marble Falls, Texas, 13 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers John and Stanley.

Wesley was born December 12, 1925 in Cedar Rapids to Fred and Wanita Keve Foster Sr. He married Eileen M. Kennedy on September 3, 1949 at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. He was a WW II US Navy veteran serving on the USS Sturgis as a baker. He was a tool and dye maker at Fruehoff Trailers, Iowa Manufacturing, and retired from Rockwell-Goss. He was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed painting, bird watching, was an avid Iowa Hawkeye Fan, and walking his black and gold dachshund “Hawkeye”.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Mercy.
