Andrew J. Gunderson: 92, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday afternoon, January 22 at St. Luke’s Hospital following a short illness. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 26, at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Rev. Randy Bobzien of the First Baptist Church in Marion officiating. Entombment will take place in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 today and at the chapel after 12:30 on Monday. Andrew is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn, a special niece Kathryn Sellers of Henderson, Nevada, nieces Betty Draker and husband Charles of Cedar Rapids and Rose Block of Marion, and great nephews, Brad Sellers and Richard Sellers and a great niece Roberta Sellers and several other nieces and nephews. Andrew was preceded in death by 4 sisters.
Andrew was born February 3, 1916 in Springville, Iowa, the son of Steven and Alma (Jorgenson) Gunderson. He briefly attended Coe College but was called back to the family farm at a young age due to his father’s illness. Andrew married Evelyn Seilhamer on March 13, 1948 in Marion, Iowa. Andrew farmed most of his life near Springville, Iowa. He was a dedicated steward of the land and worked hard to provide for his wife and family.
