Memorial

Charlotte Kay Wilson Chadima, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday afternoon, January 22, at Mercy Medical Center following a stroke and a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 26, at Westminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. Herbert Isenberg officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 on Sunday, January 25. The casket will be closed at all times. A private family committal will take place on Monday. Friends may, if they wish, donate in memory of Charlotte to Alzheimer’s Association of East Central Iowa, 1570 42nd Street NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Charlotte is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert, of Cedar Rapids; two daughters; Susan and husband Mike Steitzer of Topsham, Maine; Sarah and husband Richard Hammond of Vermillion, South Dakota; and a son, David Chadima and wife Lijun of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by her brother John Wilson and wife Charlene of Tennessee and 5 grandchildren Jonathan Steitzer, Catherine Steitzer, Paul Hammond, Anna Marie Hammond and Elizabeth Chadima. Charlotte was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Will.
Charlotte was born October 16, 1926, in Troy Mills, Iowa the daughter of Paul and Susan (Cherry) Wilson. She attended Cornell College before graduating from the University of Iowa with a degree in English. Prior to raising her children, Charlotte taught elementary education in the Cedar Rapids Community School district. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was past president of the Cedar Rapids Symphony Women’s Guild. She enjoyed her friends and was an avid reader evidenced by her activity in many social clubs: the Wednesday Shakesphere Club; the Tourist Club; the Peas and Carrots Supper Club; PEO and the Book and Bottle Club. Charlotte cared deeply for her family and her many friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
