Memorial

Arlene M. Dicus, 85, of Marion, went to be with her Lord on Friday January 23, 2009 at the MeadowView Memory Care, following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where friends may call on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The Rev. Jon Moss and Pastor Mary Taylor will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include her children, Marilyn (Larry N.) Schafbuch, of Ladora, Carol (Donald) Gugler of Ely, Judi (Ed) Urbanek of Johnston, and Beverly (John) Taylor of Independence, her siblings, Arlyn (Mary Ann) Gray of Elkader, Alice (Harold) Sorenson of Ames, and Alan (Lavon) Gray of Bluegrass, 10 grandchildren, Linda (Al) Gerard, Darrell (Tracy) Schafbuch, Connie (Dave) Miner, Kevin (Tina) Schafbuch, Michael (Shannon) Covington, Cathleen Covington, Lisa (Tom) Dahl, Tom (Sara) Urbanek, Matthew Wisgerhof and Sara (Eric) Throener, and 19 great grandchildren and one soon to be.

Her husband and parents preceded her in death.

Arlene was born May 8, 1923 in Kamrar, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Gladys Clabaugh Gray. She married Harold Edwin Dicus on June 7, 1941 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. He died February 4, 2004. Arlene was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was active in the Ruth Circle and Bracelet Girls. She also was a Bluebird, Campfire and 4-H Leader. Arlene was a true homemaker. She enjoyed caring for family and friends. In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, sewing, and cooking and making the best apple pie. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of MeadowView Memory Care and St. Luke’s Hospice for the loving care they gave to her.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association of East Central Iowa, St. Luke’s Hospice or First United Methodist Church of Marion.
