Memorial

John F. “ Hoss” Kurth, 66, of 500 Hillview Dr. in Marion died Thursday Jan. 15, 2009 at St. Lukes Hospital after a short illness. Services at 1:00 PM on Wednesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where there will also be military rites. Rev. Jennifer Filter will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday.
Survivors include his wife, Janit, one daughter, Jill (Ed) Allen of O’Fallon, Missouri, a son, Jay (Kim) of Marion, his mother, Helen of Coggon and a brother, Eldon (Pat) of Center Point. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Jillian and Shelby and his five grand-dogs. He was preceded in death by his father and his mother and father-in-law, Betty and Vern Wirtner.
John was born on Oct. 23, 1942 in Manchester, the son of Floyd and Helen Gater Kurth. He married Janit Wirtner on Feb. 14, 1965 in Monticello. John worked at Lefebure for 24 years and most recently was a store rep for News America Marketing for the last 14 years. He was an organ donor and proudly served in the Amy during the Vietnam War. John enjoyed working on cars, woodworking, gardening, doing custom painting and especially spending time with his friends and beloved family. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. Military rites by American Legion Hanford Post No. 5.
