Darlene Marie Shetler, 82, of the Promise House in Hiawatha died there on Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009 from complications of Alzheimer’s. Services at 2:00 PM on Sunday at Spirit of Faith Family Church. Pastor Jay Eberly will officiate. Burial at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 3 to 5:30 PM on Saturday.
Survivors include her husband, Robert, three daughters, Deanna (Mike) Kosman of Gereseo, IL, Shirley (Mark) Schultz, of Cedar Rapids and Cindy (Steve) Ribble of Springville; a son, Steve (Windy) of Cedar Rapids, a step-daughter, Carol Mitchell of Cedar Rapids; four brothers, Joe Erger of Brandon, Earl Erger of Vinton, Harold Erger of Center Point; and Bill Erger of Missouri and Texas; three sisters, Donna Wetzel of Cedar Falls, Marlys Stuefen of Cedar Rapids and Julia McDaniel of Boulder, Colorado; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeff Kosman.
Darlene was born on Sept. 9, 1926 in Rowley, the daughter of John and Dorothy Schlatterbek Erger. She married Robert C. Shetler on April 6, 1950 in Rowley. Darlene was a cashier at Randalls (Barlows) and retired from there after 24 years. She was a member of Spirit of Faith Family Church and a past officer for Women’s Aglow. “The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at Promise House and Iowa Hospice for their wonderful care and compassion given to (Grandma) Darlene”. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Mission of Hope.
