Memorial

Lilie Hanna, 88, of Cottage Grove Place, died there on Friday, January 16, 2009 after a long illness. Memorial Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church by the Rev. John Albertson. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m., and a luncheon held at the church at 11:30 a.m. Monday before the service.

Survivors include three sons, Robert (Debra) Hanna of Shueyville, William (Suzy) Hanna of Newhall, Calif, and Mark Hanna of Cedar Rapids; her daughter, Jean (Jon) Reynolds of Marion; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Lilie was born in Itzehoe, Germany. She moved to the United States when she was three and became a naturalized citizen. She graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. in dietetics. She married H. Edward Hanna in Rome, New York on January 24, 1943. He died in 1996. She and “Doc” established a veterinary practice in Springville where she was his assistant. Lilie was active in her husband’s profession, serving as president of the Iowa and Eastern Iowa Veterinary Medical Auxiliaries. She was a member of the American Auxiliary of University Women, the Springville Federated Women’s Club, the Springville Library Board, and a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church. Lilie had a passion for bridge, golf, and the Iowa State Cyclones.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
