Mary E. Eden, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died January 12, 2009 in her home surrounded by her loving family, following an extended battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, January 16, 2009 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Rev. David Hagstrom will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, on Thursday January 15, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include her sons David of Cedar Rapids, Steve and wife Nancy of Swisher, Doug and wife Willie of Edina, MN, Stuart and wife Sheila of Valparaiso, IN, and Jason of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Nicole Lepic, Mike Eden, Natalie Eden, Douglas Eden, Madeleine Eden, Shannon and Sydney Eden, and Jordan Nost; great granddaughter Tiffany Primmer; sister Betty Dittmer of California; brothers Duane (Lorraine) Dittmer of Dallas, TX, and Denny (Jud) Dittmer of Tipton; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald (Dutch) Eden; brothers Norbert, Neil, Wendell, Dwight, Bill, Louis, and sister Jean.

Mary Elaine Eden was born August 29, 1927 in Strawberry Point, Iowa the daughter of Arthur and Vera (Alderson) Dittmer. She was married to Donald E. “Dutch” Eden in 1948 at Strawberry Point, Iowa; he preceded her in death on June 26, 1983. She received her bachelor’s degree from Coe College, and later had received her Certified Public Secretary rating. She was employed as an executive secretary at Iowa Manufacturing, Collins Radio, Cherry Burrell and VRC. She was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Order of The Eastern Star, and Widow and Widowers. She greatly enjoyed the fine arts, and attended Theatre Cedar Rapids often. Her greatest enjoyment was time spent with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many who will be greatly missed.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to her caretaker and close friend, Patti Marr who assisted, cared, and was a dear friend. The family also thanks St. Luke’s Hospice, 5-Center Outpatient Infusion, and the numerous friends and family that have extended their love and support to Mary and her family.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the St. Luke’s Foundation designated to 5-Center Outpatient Infusion Center.
