Lois, Anne, and Sammy, When I think of truly nice people in this world, Don was at the top of my list - alway a smile and a kind word. I remember spending time at your house as a kid and he was always making us laugh. I'm so happy that my own daughter was able to know him too. I'm so sorry. Jaye Kennedy

I was shocked to read of Don's death and the injuries to his wife and grandson. . I had the honor to have worked for Don years ago at Heritage Realtors where I learned that Don was one of those rare things you find in business -- an honest man whom you could trust. . Don will definitely be missed! But I know Don was a Christian and that he and his family, beside their understandable grief, know that Don is now in the Nearer Presence of God. . God Bless Don and his family as they work their way through this tragedy.

Lois, I'm so sorry for your loss. I worked for Don for a couple of years at the APAC Building and he was always so good to me. You and your family were his pride and joy and I felt as if I knew all of you from the things he said. He was a truly good man and will be sorely missed.

Lois, there are so many memories of the kindness and genorosity that you and Don have shown me through the years. Life on this earth passes so quickly. Who would have thought that the few moments we shared before my sister, Luann's, funeral would be the last. I'm so glad I was able to thank Don for helping this recent college grad having trouble finding any job 20+ years ago. Not only did he give me a job, he gave me lots of encouragement. I will always remember that smooth "Perry Como like" tenor voice singing in church. My prayers are with you and Anne and your entire family.

Mrs. Grooms, It has been years since I have seen you and Don. When I met Don it was way back in the day with Life Investors on Collins Road. At about 21 years of age then (now 61) I remember Don as the cool, suave, sophisticated, kind and handsome man. For a number of years we would see each other off and on after we both left Life Investors. The last meeting was by chance in the elevator at the GTC. Don was, is and always will be one of the nicest guys I ever met. I know he is heaven now and I look forward to seeing him along with Leo Barry, Leo Comes, Tommy Thompson, Bob Crowe, and some other great Li people I have met along the way. Frankly I look forward to the journey. You have my sincerest blessings for peace and comfort at this time. Terry Thein

Lois, Anne & Family: Our prayers, our sincere sympathy and our love to you. Heaven is a greater place with Don's presence. He was always on God's team -- and now he is managing. If there is anything your "Ottumwa" family can do, do not hesitate to call. Our love -- Joyce Grooms Renfrew & Danny Renfrew

Lois and Anne: I SO wanted to make it to the memorial, but couldn't get away. Your tragic loss is heartbreaking, but praise God we all know Don's secure with the Father and with his beloved son. The great assurance that our parents and spouses are waiting for us with our Heavenly Father is priceless. Growing up in our 1st Assembly family was special, something that binds us all forever and I will always consider Don as one of my spiritual dads - beautiful voice and gentle spirit - and how he and my dad loved to kid each other and anyone else around! I love you Lois, heal quickly dear one. You're precious to me Annie, we had tons of fun growing up, and we'll share more - I'll come visit you both very soon. The Comforter has you in His arms, and I send my love.
