Very saddened to hear of Geaters passing - we have all lost a great man, whether family or friend. I can tell you he is probably sitting with Flounder right now, having a cold one and arguing back & forth about something. Another Cedar Rapids Institution is now gone. The hurt will never go away, it's not supposed to. It means we loved and cared for him deeply. Time will make it easier to bear and ease the deep grief. Remember and rejoice in the good times & memories, that is what Geater would want. Thanks for the memories "Big Boy"

I send condolences to all the Geater family. He and his twin sister, Dorothy were 7th grade students at Harrison #2 school in 1942-43, and I enjoyed very much being his teacher. I'm sure we will all be missing him.

Even though I no longer live in Cedar Rapids, the fun times & great memories will be with me forever of him & the "Log Cabin Family"...may you find comfort in knowing he was fondly loved, even though he could be pretty stubborn (haha) and will never be forgotten. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Take care, Julie

My sincerest thoughts and prayers go out to Don's family for their loss. His son, Jason, and my son Corey were best friends all through school and Mrs Geater was our children's teacher at Wright School. She was their favorite teacher of all. We thought the world of them both and they were just about the cutest couple you would ever see. He called her "Red" and she called him "Geater". Corey has fond memories of Cubs games and other road trips where he was invited to go with the Geaters. He adored Don, who always had a way of keeping the boys in line, yet keeping them laughing with his sharp wit and sense of humor. May God hold him in His arms and give him peaceful sleep. Don, you were loved by so many and you will be missed by all. Joyce, stay strong and know you will be with Don again someday and share eternal life together. Pam, Corey, and Chevonne Clayton

Joyce...How sad to hear of your loss. Geater was a great guy...one to always remember with a smile. I know you and your family will certainly feel a great loss. I doubt that I make it to the service since there is a snow storm predicted, but just know that my heart is with you and Jason and the rest of the families as well, even though we have not met them. Our school memories are so very precious as is our friendship. Do take care of yourself. We'll get together soon. With our love and sympathy, Dorothy & Lynn Long
