Vivian B. Christen, 100, of the Colonial Manor, Amana, died there, Tuesday, January 6, 2009, after a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by the Rev. Bill Harnish. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel.

Vivian is survived by her son, Ronald (Joyce) Christen of Walford; four grandchildren, David (Deirdre) Christen of Wheat Ridge, CO, Robert (Diana) Christen and Mary Ann Christen, all of Walford and Patrick Christen of Marengo; four great grandchildren; and her brother, Kenneth Benesh of Upland, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Ione Benesh; and her half sister, Emily Russell.

Vivian was born on November 20, 1908 in Walford to John and Anna Novak Benesh. Vivian gradualte from Lenox Teacher’s College, Hopkinton, Iowa, in 1926. She taught school in Benton County and Walford, and was the Postmaster in Walford from 1943 to 1973. She married Gottlieb Christen in Galena, IL, on June 26, 1936. He died in 1972.

Vivian was a member of the Golden Age Club, and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous.
