John H. McCallum 86, a resident of the Hiawatha Care Center, formerly of Marion, died there Monday, December 22, 2008, following a short illness. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 AM Saturday in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marion. Rev. John Gossman will officiate. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Friday with a prayer service beginning at 7 PM.

Survivors include four children Linda Carr and David McCallum both of Cedar Rapids, Rebecca McCallum and friend Whiskers of Cascade, and Douglas McCallum and wife Jean of Dubuque, four grandchildren Teri Shellenberger of Manitou Springs, Colorado, Tami Hamlin of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Erin Owen and husband Andrew of Sumner, Iowa, and Jamie Flowers of Dubuque, six great grandchildren, Michael, Sydney, Nicholas, Seth, Alyssa, and Christina, and a great great grandson Shawn. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a brother Alfred.

John was born August 20, 1922 in Waterbury, Connecticut, to Earl and Harriett Hollister McCallum. He married Glatha M. Rorah on June 10, 1946 in Cedar Rapids. She died September 30, 2007. John was employed by Collins Radio and Rockwell from 1948 to 1987. He was a US Navy Pilot during WW II. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Marion, and the Cedar Rapids Toastmasters. He enjoyed doing genealogy, playing bridge, and camping with his family.
