Memorial

Sharon K. Wolter, 71 of Cedar Rapids, died Friday morning at St. Luke’s Hospital following a short illness. A celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, December 16, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Private family burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday and at the chapel after 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Sharon is survived by her three children, two daughters, Kristi Vaile and husband Mike of Williamsburg, Iowa, Carrie Wolter of Seattle, and her son Buck Wolter and wife Nikki of St. Louis, a sister Cleo Tilton and husband Dick of Carroll, Iowa and three grandchildren, twin granddaughters, Nicole and Kelsey Vaile of Williamsburg, Iowa and Peter Wolter of St. Louis. She is also survived by many relatives in northwest Iowa. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Lois Kaiser.

Sharon was born August 31, 1937 in O’Brien County, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Iva (Iverson) Kaiser. She graduated from Dubuque University and Buena Vista College with a degree in Education and received her master’s degree from Iowa State University. Sharon was a dedicated teacher for more than 40 years and a life long educator. She taught English and Social Studies for over 15 years in the Fort Dodge Community School District where her passions were children’s literature and writing in the classroom. She continued her career and was principal at Center Point/Urbana Middle School and finished her career at Coe College as an adjunct professor. She was past president of the Iowa Association of Middle Level Educators and taught for the Iowa Writers Project. Sharon volunteered at the Czech and Slovak National Museum and at the Community Free Clinic in Cedar Rapids. She was a big supporter of Vice President elect Joe Biden who knew Sharon on a first name basis. Sharon was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling and decorating her home. She enjoyed cooking, family get-togethers and especially having everyone home for the holidays.
