William Sam Farner

My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Farner family. Sam was a mentor to me. As a young tobacco sales rep beginning my career he sat me down and lectured me for an hour when I first met him. I'll never forget that. I switched careers after 8 years, but I know that Farner show will never be the same without Sam in our booth drinking a Pepsi between his rounds of mingling with customers and friends. I'll miss visiting him in the office and hearing his hole in one stories. The man had some great stories besides golf if you can believe that. If I ever get a hole in one Sam, I'll know you'll be grinning. Thanks Sam for everything you've done for me and I will never forget your speech to me.

Dee, Family, and Friends: Add me to the long list of people who were lucky to have Sam as a business associate, Mentor, Gentleman, and most of all, Friend. He was good at checking in, usually over lunch, to see how things were going and offering advice or some sort of wisdom without even trying. He once pointed out an opportunity that improved our business immensly. When a charity event, or some other special project came up, Sam was always on board to help. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who were touched by Sam.

Dee , Our thoughts go out to you . We appreciate Sam's thoughtfulness , always asking about our boys and their sports. We thank you and Sam for taking time to come to all the graduation parties. It was an honor to work for Sam , if it wasn't for his encouragemnt and support I would have never made it in this career. My family and I owe him a lot.

Today I was saddened to learn that Sam passed away. I will remember Sam from the 1980's as the very outgoing, successful, and friendly man who always took a few minutes to talk to an inexperienced young guy with some good advice about the beer business. The world needs more Sam Farner's and I will miss him. Dee, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time.

My condolences go out to Dee and the rest of Sam's family. Sam and I went through school together in Carroll. We did tease each other alot. He had a great sense of humor. I just wish that we could have seen each other last year at the reunion. We did have a good phone conversation.

The Mejia's send our thoughts and prayers to Dee and family. Sam always treated us like family and I still smile when he would show me the picture of the kids on your refrigerator at Wildcat and he would grin and say proudly, "There's our grandkids." Some of my fondest memories are spending time with you two during Super Bowl week in Florida. May God Bless you and your family.

Mrs. Farner: I was fortunate enough to know Sam. I grew up in Centerville, so I was very familiar with the Farner-Bocken business. I have also been privileged to serve on the National I-Club Board and University of Iowa Foundation, and I know how Sam loved the Hawkeyes. I have taken the liberty of making a memorial contribution to the University of Iowa Foundation in his honor. My sympathies go to you and your entire family at this very difficult time. My prayers and thoughts are with you.
