Thomas J. Kenney

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Tom. He was a wonderful man that made an impact on everyone who crossed his path. Tom shared his love of life with everyone he met and we were all blessed to have known such a kind hearted person. I'll never forgot Eileen telling me how she saw a young man ice skating one day. He was so graceful on the ice as he performed his figure eights and turns. It took a while for her to realize it was her own elderly father doing that ice skating. Tom chose to live his life to the fullest and never missed an opportunity to bring joy to others. May God be with all of you while you mourn the loss of Tom but may the many wonderful memories of Tom bring comfort to all of you.

To Aunt Mick and All Our Kenney Cousins and Families, Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time. Uncle Tom will be missed by all, and certainly has joined Aunt Patty, Uncle Bob, Uncle Dave, Aunt Mary and all the family before them in heaven. I can only imagine a great Saint Patrick's Day party there everyday. Uncle Tom's smile and laugh are forever ingrained in our memory. We thank God for having been a part of his life.

Dear Aunt Mick and the rest of the Kenney Clan, My greatest sympathy goes out to all of you at this time. I wish I could be there to share in the memory of a wonderful Kenney brother. Uncle Tom had such a kind, gentle heart. I always loved when he and Aunt Mick would come to Oak Park to stay with the Smart Family. Uncle Tom never missed a chance to walk over to my house, ring the doorbell, and enter with a smiling face. We would sit and talk/laugh about everything. He had the warmest smile and always held your hand. I am fortunate enough to have seen him this summer at the Valparaiso vs. Iowa baseball game that my brother pitched in. The Kenney family is the best around, and Uncle Tom truly captured what we are all about! I will miss him dearly, but am comforted to know he is finally at peace. I am sending lots of Kenney hugs, tears, and love to you from Florence! Love always :-)

I had the pleasure & privilege knowing Tom for only a very short time. I am part of the staff at Heritage that helped to take care of him. Even though he couldn't convey it in words so much, it was obvious that he had a kind, compassionate soul and cared and loved everyone that was a part of his life. He should be very proud of his beautiful family who loved and cared for him deeply and stayed by his side to fight the losing battle with Alzheimer's. It was refreshing to come to work and always see one of his family members there with him. I am proud to have been a part of his life and to take care of him. I am forever grateful to him and his family in showing me that a loving & caring family & God are all you need to be happy. To Tom and his family: Thank you for coming into my life and thank you for letting me be a part of yours. With much love & God bless to each & everyone of you, Dianna Howk

Dear Mary Ellen and family, please accept my sincere sympathy and prayers at this time of Tom's death. I am unable to attend the visitation and funeral, but will be with you in spirit and thought. I have such fond memories of Tom, especially our travel times to Cedar Falls for the Pastoral Council meetings. We enjoyed many laughs at that time and when he was a volunteer at Mercy. He loved each of you so very much and talked about each of you and his pride in you was uppermost in his thoughts. Sincerely, Sister Mary Lou

Hello Kenney Family and my old pal Eileen, When I think back to the many important events in Cedar Rapids - Jim and Tootie's 25th, my graduation and wedding, Jeff, Jon and Martha's graduations and so much more...who was always there? Of course, Tom and Mary Ellen! Your dad is a fixture in the lives of the Young Family. He was always warm and wonderful and I always felt comfortable with Tom. I know Old Man Young was part of the welcoming party for Tom and the two of them will have a grand reunion! I will tell my kids that a beloved friend has joined Bompi in heaven. Love to you all. What a beautifully written tribute to Uncle Tom and a life well-lived. I am so sad to be unable to share my condolences with you all in person. I have many fond memories of Kenney gatherings over the years and visits with Uncle Tom and Aunt Mick in MN and IA. Having a family as wonderful and supportive as the Kenneys makes times like this more bearable. I smile knowing that Uncle Tom is adding to the conversation in heaven with the Kenney gift of gab. My heart goes out to the entire Kenney family. Little did I know when I moved onto Red Fox Rd some 15 years ago that I not only had a new house, but a tight knit community. Tom and Mary Ellen in particular. Having lost my own parents ay an early age they have treated me as one of their own since day one. I have admired the way in which they have actively lived every day to the fullest and given of themselves to their friends, family, and community. Tom's love of life and people, his wonderful caring nature and best of all his sense of humor will be missed by by so many. Thank you, Tom for all the years of caring and encouragement. I miss you dearly, yet I know you will forever be with me in my memories. God speed. I love you all, Julie Conner

Dear Mick, I wish to offer my sincere sympathy to you on your loss of Tom. I hadn't known that he suffered from Alzheimer's Disease. My husband Chuck went through that trial also. I empathize with you as a caregiver but also realize what a terrible trial it is for the sufferer. I will offer my prayers for God's comfort to you at this sad time. Feel free to write if you wish, Mick. I think of you often and of our good times at SJA and your wonderful home in St. Paul. Much love, Shirley

Dear Kempf's and Family, I was very sorry to hear of your loss. Tom was a wonderful neighbor and grandfather. I will always remember fondly our frequent treks through the forest to visit Tom and Mary Ellen when all of the Lost Valley kids were very young. My thoughts will be with you all in the next few days. Best, Kelly

As I approach the age of 50, and reflect on the years that our family spent in Cedar Rapids, there were a few families that were constants. The Kenney family is one. Our parents got together. The kids went to Regis High together. We just all knew each other, and there was always comfort in that. My prayers are with you all as you cry at this time of deep sorrow, and smile at the celebration of what was your father and husband's life. Our family is one year down the road of life from loosing our father Jim. You will still be touched by your dad and husband in many "thin places" should you be open to them. I pray that you all are. Thank you for the gift that was Tom.

Dear Molly and family: We were so sorry to hear of your father, Tom's passing. I know that it is both a burden and a blessing after witnessing the same thing with Pat's mom a few years ago. Mom is out here now enjoying the sun and we will lift a glass to honor your father when we all get together on Thanksgiving. I know how much strength you draw from your wonderful family and you are blessed to have them. Love to you all and hugs to your Mom, Mo, Pat, Tom, Alice, Mary Pat, Tod, Tim, Kris, Tracy, Shelley and Mary Mildred Irwin. We love you.

I am so lucky that Tom was part of my life. He was like a second dad to me, and Mary Ellen was a second mom. To my ole' pal Annie',as well as all of the infamous Kenny's, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I played alot of golf with Tom and my dad, I will always cherish those memories. Tom could get under Jim's skin. I don't think my dad ever beat him. Cheers Tom
