Eldo E. Hilmer, 90, of 5960 Kacena Avenue, Marion, died at St. Luke’s Hospital Wednesday, November 5, 2008, after a long illness. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, at First Baptist Church, Marion by the Rev. Randy Bobzien. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Eldo is survived by a son, Keith Hilmer, of Simi Valley, CA; a daughter, Phyllis Spence, of Arlington, VA; four sisters: Adeline Rompot and Mae Gatto, both of Cedar Rapids, and Alice Johnson of Winthrop; three brothers: Ralph Hilmer of Phoenix, AZ, Walter Hilmer of Cedar Rapids, and Marvin Hilmer of Cincinnati, OH; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Eldo was born June 14, 1918, in Allamakee County to Arthur and Edna Hilmer. He worked for Sanitary Farm Dairies for 21 years and for St. Luke’s Hospital for five years. Eldo was married to Mildred Teter in Marion on May 26, 1940. She died in 2002. Eldo was a Navy veteran of WWII and an active member of First Baptist Church in Marion.

Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the First Baptist Church of Marion.
