Patrick G. O'Hare

Kathleen and all the members of Pat's family,

You have my deepest sympathy at this time in your sorrow. Kathleen, it was a great pleasure to finally meet you after speaking to you many times on the phone.

Pat was great gentleman to work with and I will never forget him and his great sense of humor when we worked together at the RI RR.

My sincerest condolences to your family.

Kathleen, Dan, Jimmy, and Patty:

I want to offer my sincere condolences to all of you on the passing of your husband and father and my Uncle Pat. It is with great disappointment that I wasn't able to get to Cedar Rapids in time for the memorial service. Growing up in Cedar Rapids I have wonderful youthful memories of my uncle Pat, especially those days at Grandpa and Grandma O'Hare's when Uncle Pat was there. His marvelous sense of humor, his loyalty to family and friends, and his exceptional sense of duty were the hallmark of the man. The world is a lesser place today than it was before Pat O'Hare departed. He will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.

Dear O'Hare Family,
I've met all of you many times and love Miss Trish like a sister. I only met your dad and husband once, but he reminded me of my dad. And that is all I need to know about the man Patrick G was. They were men of their times. They were the best they could be.

Thinking of you all these days.

Dear Kathleen (Mama Bear), Dan, Jim & Nhi, and Patty:

I just spoke with Joanne Brannigan who told me of Pat's (Papa Bear) passing. For the past week I had been thinking about you all and was planning to call.

I treasure memories of times together...and a special delivery package of summer sausage encased in a pipe.

My thoughts, prayers and love are with you all.

Our sincere condolences to the entire family. We're sorry that we weren't able to be there for the services, but our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I recall being struck by how approachable Pat was and although I didn't know him well, he never made me feel like a stranger—a very warm and genuine person. I enjoyed hearing about the stories from earlier years that Pat and Kathleen spent with my Grandfather (his brother Larry) and Grandmother. They had such a good time together. I know there are many stories that were left untold (to me anyway), but the ones I heard always left a smile on my face and yearning to hear more. They were a fun bunch. You are such a great family and I know he will be missed. Keep telling those stories and keep his memory alive (and I'll be there to listen in anytime)!

Much Love,
Erin (O'Hare) and Pete Kelly

Our deepest condolences, Pat was a personality, warm, funny just a joy to be around. I feel I missed out living in Ohio we only had a few gatherings that we spent together. Pat was so lucky to live a full life and watch his children and grandchildren grow. There is never a time in life that makes it easier to say goodbye to a husband, father and grandfather. My heart aches for you and the hard days to come. I would like to share the following by Ralph Waldo Emerson.

“To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.”

What a wonderful family Pat raised he should be proud. We are very sad we were not there for the memorial to celebrate his life.

Love,

Bernie, Jen, Kelsey & Kyle Niehaus

I send my sympathy, thoughts and prayers to the O'Hare Family. I learned of his death and Memorial Mass only yesterday and am unable to make a trip to Cedar Rapids today. The tribute to him in the obituary was well done. May you be consoled by your memories, his life lessons, and your faith, family, and friends. May all of the Irish Blessings now be real for him, and may the Lord bless you as well these special days!

My deepest sympathy to Jim O'Hare, my co-worker, and all his loving family. We have shared stories about war heroes such as Patrick and my late husband. These are great men of a very special mold, who live life with strong convictions and a sense of honor that is often misunderstood by mainstream. Our lives are blessed to have been touched by them.

To Kay, Dan, Pattie, & Jimmy – With deepest sympathy in the loss of Pat – some of my happiest childhood memories are of the summers on Main Street in Westfield, MA – and your dad was such an overwhelming presence (for me) – yet kind, gentle, and happy – he loved to joke with everyone –- May his wisdom and humor live on through your lives and in the stories you share, as you say good-bye during this very difficult time …

In my thoughts and prayers.

My Deepest Sympathy to the Family of Patrick G. O'Hare

I met Patrick when I work at RJ Kool Company. I was a young man just out of the military, and it was my first civilian job after serving in the Army for 7 years. Patrick was always so kind to me, and would have a good joke for me every once in awhile. He reminded me of my Irish Catholic Grandfather that passed away while I was serving overseas. I only worked there for about 18 months, and I seen Pat a few times over the 15 years since I left there. I never forgot him for the reason that he was a great man from that great generation. I'll always remeber him right along with my grandfather. God Bless your Family.

In Sympathy,

Joseph Helle

My sympathy to all of your family. I met Pat years ago as my dad (Don Fagan) worked on the railroad with Pat. He was always so friendly and kind as we shared stories of the railroad and life in general. He told me he admired my Dad for being such a great family man and for having raised such a nice family. He was always so kind and pleasant to talk with. Dad has been gone for nearly 12 years now and we think of him and miss him every day. May your family be consoled by the fact that the world was a better place for having a man like Patrick O'Hare. May he rest in peace and I'm sure he and Dad will be talking about their railroad days. God Bless your family in your hour of sorrow.
Sincerely,
Tom Fagan

I remember Mr. O'Hare as a very family oriented husband and father. He had funny little stories to tell and liked to tease us when we were growing up at St. Patrick's and La Salle. I remember one very early morning a few years ago at the Cedar Rapids Airport. I was so surprised to see him there at that time of day and I asked him if he was waiting for a flight east. He said "Oh no, this is my second home. I am always out here either waiting to drop someone off or to pick someone up. I like to just stay here in Cedar Rapids with my feet on the ground." Then he chuckled. We will remember his kindness to everyone he touched. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
