Danny Richard Owens, 60, of 6812 Inwood Lane, NE, entered his fathers' house on Monday, Sept. 15, 2003 at his residence with his family at his side following a long courageous battle with emphysema. Services will be held at 3 PM on Friday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, with the Rev. Kerrin Kirkpatrick officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Cemetery where there will also be military rites. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday.
Survivors include his wife Mary; one son Danny and his wife Julie of Grinnell; two daughters, Tina Marie Stafford, Teri Lynn Owens both of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Shellain Renae and Dakota Quinton Owens of Grinnell, Roxanne Marie Ankeny and Shane Robert Stafford of Cedar Rapids; four stepchildren, Brian Eschen, Michael DeVore, Tonda McReynolds, Todd Hamor all of Cedar Rapids; and several step-grandchildren; three sisters, Joann and her husband Arnold Slach of Iowa City, Thelma and her husband Richard Holmes of Marshalltown, Patricia Shipley of San Diego, CA; two brothers, Michael and his wife Donna of Lawson, MO, Dennis and his wife Dorothy of Neillsville, WI. He was further survived by many nieces and nephews as well as many great nieces and nephews, two Shiatsu's Harley and Tuffy.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Peggy Lou Goff Buchmayer and Dixie Lee Trotter; a stepdaughter Tammy Smith.
Danny, a grand person was he, was born July 22, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa to Vaughn Dean and Edith Cora Frankford Owens. He attended school and spent his formative years in Chelsea where the family had moved in 1947. After school Danny spent two years in the U.S. Army receiving an honorable discharge. Danny was a life long truck driver, working for a number of trucking firms. It was an occupation that he dearly loved which he was forced to discontinue due to illness. Danny and Joan Belton were married having two children prior to the marriage ending. He later married Betty Hamor having one child before that marriage ended. Danny and Mary Lou Wehrenberg were married on August 13, 1994 in Cedar Rapids. Mary was steadfast in her support and care of Danny throughout his battle with his illness.
Danny will be dearly missed by family and friends and until we meet again, may God hold him in the palm of His hand.
Memorial donations to Hospice of Mercy in Danny's name. Military rites by the American Legion Hanford Post No. 5.
