Harold G. 'Hal' Viner, 61, of 711 Danbury St. NE, died Thursday, January 16, 2003 in St. Luke's Hospital following a sudden illness. Services with military rites at 1 PM Monday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Fredrich Mellberg of Hope United Church of Christ in Hiawatha officiating. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday and at the chapel after noon on Monday.
Survivors include his wife Dixie, a son Scott Viner and wife Stephanie of Marion, and their children John and Sadie, a daughter Sherry Christensen and husband Jason of Cedar Rapids and their son Zachary, and two brothers Michael Viner and wife Julie of Hiawatha, and Dale Viner and wife Lonnie of Urbana. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Lucille Matney.
Hal was born October 9, 1941 in Marion, Iowa, to Gilbert and Berniece McGrath Viner. He married Dixie Bordwell on July 11, 1964 in Belle Plaine, Iowa. Hal was a auto body repair specialist for Mike McGrath Pontiac and had also worked at Cryovac, Goss, Rapids Chevrolet, Ream's Auto Body, managed Carousel Auto Body in Iowa City from 2000 to 2001, and was a instructor at Kirkwood Community College. He was a member of Classy Chassis Cruisers Car Club, and a US Army Veteran.
Military rites by Hanford American Legion Post No 5.
Hal will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established.
