Sherry Gail Penick, 55, of 2429 Cimarron Drive, passed away August 12, 2008 in her home following a short courageous battle with cancer. Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 16, 2008 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, August 15, 2008 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.Survivors include her husband of over 31 years John, daughter Keri Anne Penick of Coralville; brothers Larry Heatwole and wife Elaine of Harrisonburg, VA, Robert Heatwole of Santa Fe, NM, Tim Heatwole, and Todd Heatwole both of Maryland; her sister Donna Cash and husband Michael of Northern Virginia; a special aunt Beverly Weatherly of Richmond, VA; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and numerous friends.She was preceded in death by her parents, and her son Matthew Donald Penick.Sherry Gail Penick was born on July 28, 1953 in Harrisonburg, Virginia the beloved daughter of Donald and Virginia Mae (Branner) Heatwole. She was a graduate of Turner Ashby High School, and later attended Bridgewater College in Dayton, VA. She was united in marriage to John Penick on May 7, 1977 in Harrisonburg, VA. She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and worked at the Discovery Shop. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking wonderful meals, being a great mother, and time spent with family and friends. She will forever be remembered as being patient, loving, friendly, outgoing, and unselfish. She showed great strength throughout her illness. She was a woman who always could find the good in others. She will be greatly missed, but forever remembered in the hearts of her family and friends.Sherry's request was that all memorial donations in her name be directed to Habitat for Humanity, 500 3rd St SE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52401.
