Memorial

Leona M. King Parish, 67, of 865 14th Street NE, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, in the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a short illness. Services at 1 PM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories from 4 to 7 PM on Friday and after 12:30 PM on Saturday.

Survivors include her six children, Regina Burnett of Greensboro, North Carolina, Selina Leonard Logan, Terina Butch Brade Hemminger, Verina Stovall, James Parish Jr., and Delbert Parish all of Cedar Rapids, a sister Darlys Rick Rogers of Orchard, Iowa, four brothers Frederick Sharon King, of Charles City, Iowa, Duane Cleone King of Floyd, Iowa, Wayne Deborah King of Pensacola, Florida, and Cecil Kathleen King of Robins, sixteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law and husband, many nieces, nephews, cousins, her best friend of many years Rose Jibben and Family, and her dog Mystic. She was preceded in death by the love of her life her husband James Robert Parish Sr., her mother Bernice Seidel King, and both grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George King, and Mr. And Mrs. Fred Seidel

Leona was born on June 12, 1941 in Riceville, Iowa to Marreld and Bernice Seidel King. She graduated from Charles City, High School in 1959. She worked at a small restaurant where she met James Robert Bob Parish, and went to Las Vegas, Nevada to marry him.
Leona worked at Rockwell-Collins for 29 and a half years before retiring. For the last 10 years she worked at Target East. She was known as the "Quiet Red Card Lady." With both jobs she met and became a good friend to many people.

For the last two years she fought a courageous battle of breast, lung, brain, and bone cancer.

The family wishes to thank the Doctors, and nurses at Mercy Medical Center, and the hospice house for her tender care.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in her name.
