We had the honor of meeting Cy only once, but appreciated what a gentle, thoughtful, and engaged man he was. He enriched our lives through his art and writing and we are sorry for his family's loss.

Dear Renee, There are no words...only tears of sadness. Knowing that I will no longer get to see that smile and feel that hug that always greeted me. God put this special man in my path for a reason and I will be forever grateful for meeting him. I will forever treasure our last visit together eating cookies and having my Chai Tea. The picture I took of the two of you is a treasure I will never let go of. I know the kids and I have always missed seeing him at church but now I know he can sit right beside us every Sunday. I know Cy is watching over and taking care of you now. All my love to you and to My Dear Friend Cy...

Renee, We were so sorry to hear about Cy. He was a wonderful man who we appreciated for his talent, humor and beautiful outlook on life. We remember especially how Cy interacted so positively, almost magically, with our children when they were youngsters. Paul was amazed how intriguing Cy was and he always looked up to him. We will treasure Cy's books and photographs for their beauty, insights and amazements. He was a very gifted person in many ways. We have been blessed to part of Cy's life. Please accept our condolences, Chuck and Ellen Barth

I will miss Cy tremendously. He had a wonderful, generous spirit that lightened the lives of those fortunate enough to have known him. I feel such gratitude towards he and Renee for always being so open, warm and welcoming whenever we showed up on their doorstep. My family treasures our time spent at Cy and Renee's home in Cedar Rapids. Our thoughts and prayers are with you Renee, and with Cy as he makes his journey home. Love, Molly, Hugh, Xoe, Jason, and Keegan.

Cy was a dear man, who created a skillful mass of heavenly work, which will bear witness to his generous and loving spirit, in years to come. His gentle wit and contented character was the essence, which always gave others a profound affection for him. Cy was greatly accomplished, although the sight and sounds of civilisation was his turf. He thrilled at the engagement of others and graced all with his woundrous, youthful spirit. Cy's eye's held the intoxication for life and his nature refuse to wane, in later years when his body was humbled by an acute physical condition. From a very modest childhood, this man rose to heights most folks only dream of. The sweet Lord was there, along the way, offering support for the blessed journey. Now from the loving arms of Renee, Cy's wife, God; our heavenly Father, welcomes Cy with praise for a life well lived.

I had Cy as a teacher, when he was on the faculty at Loras. What a gentle, creative, challenging professor. He was very good for me at the point in my life. I am so happy that he apparently lived a wonderful, happy, creative life after our lives went in different directions. May all who knew him rejoice and give thanks for the wonderful gift of God that he was to us.

Cy Reilly was a wonderful man. As my teacher at Loras College, he kindled my interest in American Literature with his great passion and knowledge. He was kind enough to come to a class I taught at Marquette High School in Bellevue and share his extraordinary photos, which enlarged and enriched my vision and my life. Those luminous images also enhanced the haiku of my friend and mentor Ray Roseliep in The Earth We Swing On, and I remember how much Ray loved Cy and you, Renee. The world is a smaller and emptier place without Cyril Reilly in it, but we are all blessed by his good work and good works. Starting tonight, I will begin praying TO Cy and many others, as Raymond did to his Mother, FOR all my loved ones still on this earth. May he rest in peace, and may all of us be blessed with our fondest memories of this good man who has been called from us. Peace and Love and Joy, and Excelsior! Bill Pauly

Our sympathy goes out to the family of Cyril A. Reilly. My father was Daniel L. Reilly, born in May 1922, in Cedar Rapids. He too was from a Catholic family of ten children, Beatrice & James L. Reilly's. We first heard of Cyril & Renee when my sister gave Dad a book for his library collection about Ireland, authored by them; it was such a beautiful piece of work. I can't help but think that Cyril & my father were related, probably distantly. Even though we did not know him, the obituary describes him as a truly wonderful spirit. May God bless you in your loss. With sincere sympathy, Beth, Scott & Megan Smothers

I fondly remember Cy instigating Hootenannies for Loras and Clarke students 1962-66 and was inspired by his music! What a gift he was to us who were just beginning to sing in public and find ourselves as folk singers and performers. I also remember his column in the Loras paper "On The Sly W/ Cy." I still sing "Sarah the Whale" for my grandchildren. R.I.P. Cy Reilly! Sounds like your whole life was a gift to others!

For Patrick Reilly and family, a little remembrance note of all the creativity Uncle Cy contained. I'm presuming it is still running through the family. He was strong to depart the priest hood back then! In all endeavors he had 'special' guidance no doubt. Thinking of you all and simply remembering!!!
