Mary Jeanne Palmer, 84, a resident of the Methwick Community died at The Woodlands, Monday, June 16, 2008, following a brief illness. Services at 10:30 AM on Friday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer will officiate. Burial at 1:30 PM on Friday at the Springville Cemetery in Springville. Per Mary Jeanne's request there will be no visitation, her casket will be closed at all times. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include four nieces, Marjory Palmer Morrissey, Centennial, CO, Patricia Palmer Pedersen, Cincinnati, OH, Linda Palmer King, Humble, TX, Judith Palmer Estes, Cibolo, TX and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her only brother, John Frank Palmer Jack Jr.

Mary Jeanne was born May 11, 1924, the daughter of John Frank and Charlotte Wagner Palmer in Cedar Rapids. Mary Jeanne graduated from Franklin High School in 1941. She graduated from Coe College in 1945 where her life-long teaching career began in the Alburnett High School, and then Solon High School. She then worked for Walter Shupp, Superintendent of Linn County Schools for two years. Mary Jeanne was married August 9, 1951 when she moved to Clinton, IA where she also taught for a short time. She returned to Cedar Rapids after her divorce to teach in various elementary schools. She received her master's degree from the University of Iowa and served as a principal at the Eisenhower school for three years, retiring in 1990. For ten years she then worked for Iowa State University supervising student teachers. Mary Jeanne's love of teaching spanned many years

Mary Jeanne's love of traveling took her to more than 21 countries all over the world where she loved to study the many different cultures as well as collect artifacts from various places. She also did mission work in Honduras and Haiti. Mary Jeanne was a life long member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church as well as a member of P.E.O. Chapter LI in Cedar Rapids.
