C. R. Dick Zieke
My love to all of Dick and Jean's family. I directed Camp Wapsie Y for 10 years and your dad bet me dinner of my choice if I could fill the summer camp within 2 years. Of course I did and your parents and I had dinner at a very nice restaurant. It even included drinks. They always stayed with me in my house during family camp and were two of the best supporters I had. Your dad helped me with FEMA when I had flooding problems and always was a resource for anything we needed at camp. A little of their soul will always be with me and Camp Wapsie.

Zieke family: I was so sorry to hear of Dick's passing. I saw him often in my job as at the YMCA front desk. I remember asking Dick how he was when he came in and he always told me "Probably Perfect." He will be missed here at the Y, especially among the people at Camp Wapsie. Mike Condon Cedar Rapids, Iowa

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Dick was a true gentleman if there ever was one. I always looked forward to seeing him at the YMCA and knew he would always have a smile for me. I will miss that smile.

Dear Family, We were so sad to hear of Dicks passing. He had a special place in our hearts as he was the bookeeper in our business Travel Trailer Sales up til the time he retired. He was a great person. As one would say and old shoe. Very easy to talk to and he will be missed by many people whose lives he touched. We are with you in thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Don & Marcy Sedlacek

Dick and Jean were VERY good friends of my dad and mom. I knew Dick as an example of what a friend should be. I hunted with him and Steve with my dad and talked to him often. His highest praise should be as a good family man and neighbor to others. Lori said he danced very well also. May God bless this Godly man and his family.

My dear sweet Aunt and Uncle were so full of LOVE and CARING. Family was of the utmost importance. Visits with them and my cousins were always looked forward to with great antisipation. So much laughter and fun. It was very comforting to know that in their need they had such loving care given them by their children. You all are marvelous! Love Cousin Sally

Most of you are remembering the Adult Dick. This was the Dick who managed a successful business, served in the Navy Air Corps in WWII, created beautiful places to live, was a handball champion, friend, father,Grandfather, and husband. but I knew him as "My brother" He was one of the "Big Kids" Bud and Dick. I was one of the "Little Kids, Betty and Bob. Ours was a loving, secure family with only differences that came from living in and through the Great Depression. In our adult lives we saw each other at spaced intervals. Each reunion was filled with happy memories and the closeness we shared. We did have many diversities but we knew there was an unshakable link between us. The link is still there. I rejoice in the lives of Charles Richard "Dick" my brother and his wife Jean, my friend and sister-in-law. God bless his family.

To the family of Jean and Zeke, For the past thirty years my extended family has attended the Labor Day family Camp at WAPSI. We have fond memories of Jean and Zeke. I can still see my mother in her late seventies sitting with Jean cheering on the volley ball games. Zeke and Jean complimeted each other. Thank you for sharing them with us every fall at Camp Wapsi.

It is hard to believe Dick, or as we in the handball club all called him, "Zieke" is gone. He never lost a game, and his explanation if he came up short on the score never seemed like an excuse. He was simply unbeatable, even when he got too old to play the game the way he wanted to. I never forgot his advice to smile and enjoy it if I made a good shot, because it happened so rarely to me. He was an uplifting spirit everywhere he went, and never said a discouraging word about anyone except in jest. I am very saddened he is gone, but his spirit will always live at the YMCA in the handball courts.
