C. R. "Dick" Zieke, 85, of 2131 First Ave SE, died Thursday, May 1, 2008, at the Health Center at Cottage Grove, following a long illness. Memorial services will be held at the Cedar Rapids YMCA, 207 7th Ave SE, on Monday May 12, 2008, at 2:30 PM. Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer of St. Paul's United Methodist Church will officiate. Inurnment at Oak Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include one son, Steven Beth of Caledonia, MN., two daughters Susan Pam of Spooner, WI., and Lee Lindsay of Decorah, and a sister Betty Jo Hardies of Las Vegas, NV. Also survived by two grandchildren, Margaret and Sarah. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jean, son Charles Richard Zieke Jr., and two brothers F. G. Zieke Jr. and Robert P. Zieke.

Dick was born December 9, 1922 in Storm Lake, Iowa to Franklin G. and S. Frances Smoot Zieke. He married Jean Morris on February 15, 1945 in Cedar Rapids. She died March 15, 2008.

Dick was a graduate of McKinley High School in Cedar Rapids, and the University of Iowa. He served with the Navy Air Corps during WW II, and owned and operated Morris Bookkeeping Service until retirement.

Dick was a lifetime member of the Cedar Rapids YMCA where he played handball for many years. He was an active volunteer at Camp Wapsie Y, and participated in Family Camp for over 40 years. His joy in life was spending time with family and friends. Dick was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.

Memorial donations may be made to Camp Wapsie Y in care of the Cedar Rapids YMCA.
