Janelle L. Polansky, 60, of 1112 38th St SE, died Wednesday April 23, 2008 in Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a long illness. Services: 11:00 A.M. Monday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by Sister Mary Lou Podzmek. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2-5 P.M. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Janelle Jan was raised in Calmar, Iowa until graduating from South Winneshiek High School in 1965 when she moved to Cedar Rapids. She met and married Chuck Polansky in 1969. Sons Tom and Scott were born from that marriage. In 1987 Jan started working at Mercy Medical Center and did so for 10 years. She then worked at Mercy Care Marion for 10 years until August, 2007when she retired due to her illness. She loved her work as a medical transcriptionist and made many wonderful life long friends. She loved to travel and made many trips to the Caribbean, Las Vegas and Mesa, Arizona. She was a devoted wife and mother and had the greatest pride in her sons Tom and Scott. She loved shopping trips with her husband searching for antiques. She loved her devoted dog "Buddy" her west highland terrier. Jan enjoyed sports including Hawkeye football and basketball and Green Bay Packer football. There was always a little bit of devilment and a twinkle in her eye. Her husband and sons meant the world to her along with the rest of her family and friends who Jan was devoted to. She fought a courageous battle with cancer. Thank you Dr. Marc Wilkenson and Jessica Quinn and their staffs for taking such good care of her as well as the Mercy Hospice Staff.

Survivors include her husband Chuck, a son, Thomas Polansky of Hiawatha, stepsons, Robert and wife Linda of Waterloo, Illinois, and James and wife Elizabeth of York, Pennsylvania, three step grandchildren, Josh, Sarah and Rebecca, brothers, Ken and wife Julia of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Terry Benda and wife Kerri of Urbana, Iowa, Gaylan Benda of Spillville, Iowa, sister, Geraldine Floerchinger and husband Gene of Mesa, Arizona.

Her son, Scott Polansky preceded her in death.

A memorial fund has been established.
