George Daringer, 87, of Cedar Rapids died Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House following a short illness. Per his wishes, he was cremated. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Margaret; 5 children, Dennis Daringer of Seattle, WA; Linda McCool of Salt Lake City, UT; Sandra Daringer, Kathleen Brian Corrigan, and Kenny Daringer all of Cedar Rapids; 2 brothers, Norman Pat Daringer of Cedar Rapids and Carrol "Tex" Daringer of Texas; a special niece, Marlice Buddy Garrison; 4 grandchildren, Mike Stephanie Doe, Colby Corrigan, and Hunter Corrigan all of Cedar Rapids; Jamie McCool of Salt Lake City, UT; and 4 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, and 1 sister.
George Daringer was born on November 18, 1920 in Reinbeck, IA, the son of William and Grace Carey Daringer. He graduated from Oelwein High School in 1941. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1946. George married Margaret Crowe in Chicago, Illinois on April 12, 1947. He went to Machinist School and Freight Traffic School in Chicago following his service in the Army. He worked as a supervisor at Penick & Ford for many years. Throughout his retirement he worked for the Cedar Rapids School District as a sanitation engineer. He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor.
