Memorial
Roger C. Gordon, 76, of 1350 44th St. in Marion died Monday April 21, 2008 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House Of Mercy in Hiawatha of lung cancer. Memorial services at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Chaplain Joseph Kane will officiate. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery where there will also be military rites. Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his mother, Ruth Gordon of Anamosa, wife, Phyllis, a son, John Debbie of Alburnett, two daughters, Cindy Vogel of Elbe, Washington and Jan Tom Dole of Anamosa, two step daughters, Melissa Joe Rempt of Coralville and Melinda Tony Czarkowski of Downers Grove, Illinois, three step sons, Larry Betty Hicks of Manchester, Mike Kristi Hicks of Marion and Bill Hicks of Denver, Colorado. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, brother, Bob and stepson, David Hicks.
Roger was born on Sept. 17, 1931 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Leonard and Ruth White Gordon. He graduated from Martelle High School and later attended Coe College and Kirkwood Community College. He married Yvonne W. Wolf on June 14, 1958 in Monticello. She died in 1993. He then married Phyllis Van Deest on March 9, 1995 in McAllen, Texas. Roger was an electrical engineer at Square D for over 38 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Cedar Rapids Horseman's Club, American Legion Hanford Post No. 5, a former member of the Eastern Iowa Ski Club and proudly served in the Navy during the Korean War. Roger enjoyed his horses, golf, the outdoors, hunting and especially spending time with his many friends and beloved family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Miracles in Motion in Roger's name. Military rites by American legion Hanford Post No. 5.
