Memorial

Harold D. Usher 93, of 2700 First Ave, Marion, died Friday, April 18, 2008, in St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness. Services at 1 PM Monday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer of St. Paul's United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial with military honors in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Sunday and at the chapel after 12:30 PM Monday.

Survivors include his son Gary and wife Barb of Marion, grandson Chad Usher of Cedar Rapids, two brothers Delbert and Paul both of Cedar Rapids, and sister Donna Mittan of Blairstown. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and three sisters Imogene Kruse, Alice Swinton, and Pearl Usher.

Harold was born January 30, 1915 in Chickasaw County, Iowa to Otto and Sylvia DeGroff Usher. He married Eleanor Myrle Hanson on June 14, 1935 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She died January 16, 2007. He was a US Navy Seabees Veteran. Harold was a farmer from 1947 to 1978, and also a foreman at LaPlant Choate Allis Chalmers from 1935 to 1966. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, and a member of the Marion American Legion Post 298. He enjoyed woodworking, talking about old times, and could fix anything.
