Ernest R. "Ernie" Reinberg, 76, of 7231 Linn Benton Road, died at St. Luke's Hospital on Sunday, April 6, 2008, after a brief illness. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Stephens Lutheran Church by the Rev. Doug Woltemath with military services. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Thursday. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Joan; two daughters, Susan Steve Sands of Rowley and Sandra Marvin Rathje of Anamosa; a sister, Violet Caldwell of Bettendorf; five grandchildren, Michael Sands Heidi Wright, Rebecca Sands Sultan Karim, Melissa Rathje Jeff Smith, Marsha David Wimer, and Amanda Rathje; and two great grandsons, Hunter Wimer and Desmon Rathje.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Edward and Roy Reinberg; and two sisters, Helen Mason and Dorothy Papesh.

Ernie was born on February 27, 1932 in Keystone to John and Emma Reinberg.
He was unable to finish high school because he had to assist his family, working
at Belle Plaine Ford. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and remained
in the Army Reserves for seven more years. In 1952 he went to work for
Bob Zimmerman Ford and specialized in heavy line transmissions. Ernie married Joan Schrader on August 26, 1956 in Newhall. He was a fan of anything John Deere
and mowed yards for many people in neighboring communities on his own tractor.
He will be missed by his cats and dogs, Bootsie, Ginger, Tippie, and their
friend, Abby.

Military services will be conducted by the Atkins American Legion.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
