Memorial
Owen Gary Thomas, 87, of the Keystone Cedars died there on Thursday March 27, 2008 after an extended illness. Memorial services at 11 AM on Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where there will be military rites. Friends may call at the Chapel of Memories after 10 AM on Tuesday. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, James Kerry of Anamosa, Brett Diane of Panama City, Florida and a daughter, Jan Greg Bressler of Independence. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren and a special sister-in-law, Elva Boyse of Marion. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Dolores.
Owen was born on March 21, 1921 in Center point, the son of Charles and Emma Heins Thomas. He married Dolores Brecht on Aug. 21, 1949 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She died in 1990. Owen worked at Quaker Oats for over 43 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Cedar Christian Church, Past Commander of the American Legion Hanford Post No. 5, the Linn County Veterans Affairs Commission, volunteered at Hospice, Meal's on Wheels and proudly served in the Air Force during WWII. Owen enjoyed the outdoors; hunting and fishing especially with his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and many many friends. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given St. Luke's Hospice in Owen's name.
