Memorial

Walter L. Daft, 85, of 2106 42nd Street NE, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at his home following a brief illness. Services will be held at 1 PM Monday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Dr. Herbert Isenberg of Westminster Presbyterian Church will officiate. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel after noon on Monday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Marjorie, three children Mike Janice of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, Tom Patti of Clive, Iowa, and Judy Jon Studt of Springville, Iowa. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Joe and Paul Daft, Davey and Katie Daft, and Matt, Mark, and Jacob Studt, his brother Willis Daft of Peoria, Illinois, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Maude Fowble, and a brother Glenn Daft.

Walter was born on December 4, 1922 in Cass County, Iowa, the son of Josie E. and K. Guy Daft. He married Marjorie Kelley on December 23, 1950 in Cedar Rapids.
Walter served in the Navy during World War II. He was a carpenter by trade and a longtime employee of Cedar Rapids Community Schools prior to his retirement in 1988. He was a 50 year member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Following his retirement, he loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed reading, woodworking, and playing computer games. He never met a stranger, only friends with whom he was not yet acquainted.

Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1285 Third Ave. SE, The Hawkeye Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, 660 32nd Ave SW, or to the St. Luke's Health Care Foundation, 1026 A Ave. NE.
