Mary Lois Lyon, 87, of 1978 Paris Rd., Central City, died Tuesday, February 19, 2008, in Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Nick Needham of the First United Methodist Church in Central City will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Friday and at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Saturday.

Survivors include her daughter Jeanne Meyers and husband Butch of Central City, their sons Jason, Chad, and T. J., eight other grandchildren, eight nieces and six nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Alice McDoniels, her husband Francis A. "Pete" Lyon in April of 1998, a son Tim Lyon, a daughter Judy Lyon Steeper, a sister Maxine Miller, four brothers, and a great-granddaughter Amanda Cousins.

Mary Lois was born June 14, 1920 in Harris, Iowa, to Jack and Alice Gordon McDoniels. She married Francis A. "Pete" Lyon on November 30, 1946. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Central City and a former member of the United Methodist Church in Marion. She was active with the United Methodist Women, and the Central City American Legion Auxiliary. She was an avid reader and worker of crossword puzzles, and enjoyed playing solitaire when she could no longer help with other community projects.
