Memorial
Duane Arnold, Jr., 57, of Cedar Rapids, died Feb. 12. 2008 at Mercy Medical Center following a sudden illness. Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday February 14, 2008 at All Saints Catholic Church. The Rev. David O'Connor will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 PM, Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Friends may also call one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
He leaves behind his loving family, his wife Colleen Arnold; his children DJ and Kathy Arnold of Cedar Rapids; Brigid and Tim Christianson of Sheffield; Stephen Arnold and Charlotte Purser of Long Island City, NY; Kevin Arnold and Abby Arnold both of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Hannah & Ryan Arnold and Delaney & Brynn Christianson; sisters Helen Arnold of Cedar Rapids, Margaret and Chris Contard of Liverpool, NY, Mary Arnold of Rocklin, CA, mother-in-law Inelda Geraghty of Cedar Rapids, sister-in-law Sister Sheila Geraghty RSM of Monticello, brother-in-law Pat and Pam Geraghty of Cedar Rapids, sister-in-law Rose and Ron Denny of Cedar Rapids, and his special buddy, Chester, as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Duane and Henrietta, and a sister Elizabeth Arnold.
He graduated from Wentworth Military Academy in 1970 and attended Coe College. He was employed by Iowa Electric Light & Power and the CRandIC Railroad, both founded by his family. While at Wentworth he received his multi-engine pilot license. For several years he was a special deputy for the Linn County Sheriff. He was also on the original board for Ushers Ferry, and a past board member of YMCA Camp Wapsie, the Red Cross, and the CR Symphony. He was also a special friend of Bill W.
We will miss his sense of humor and his willingness to drop everything to help someone in need. He loved his family unconditionally and encouraged their independent thinking. He enjoyed spending many hours at the Fellowship Club with a wonderful group of friends.
