Grant W. Ellis, 85, a resident of Methwick Manor, died Saturday February 9, 2008 in
St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. James United Methodist Church by the Rev. Burial: Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Wednesday.
Survivors include a son, Mark EllisPat of Cedar Rapids, a daughter, Jennifer GongwerRay of Cedar Rapids, a brother, Bruce EllisGloria, of San Diego, California, a sister-in-law, Edith Davis Martin of Tyler, Texas, four grandchildren, Don A. Ellis, Toni, Adam Ellis Gongwer, Kasey, Lindsay Hartgrave Justin, and Jared Gongwer Kristen Early, great grandchildren, Ellis Grant Gongwer, Jayden Ellis, Joel Ellis and Natalie Hartgrave. Also surviving are nieces and nephews.
Grant was born October 26, 1922 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Donald and Alice Burns Ellis. He married Betty M. Bissell on August 5, 1945 in Cedar Rapids. Grant was a graduate of McKinley High School. He was employed at Link-Belt/FMC as a welder for over 40 years before retiring. He was an active member of St. James United Methodist Church and Marion American Legion Post #298. In his free time he enjoyed woodworking and making grandfather clocks. He served in the Army during World War II, where he received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Grant was a very loving husband, father and grandfather and very devoted to his family.
