Memorial
Betty Jean Travis, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, January 27, 2008 at St. Lukes Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, February 1, 2008 at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church, 2424 42nd St. NE, Cedar Rapids. Pastor Paul Wilcox will officiate. Friends may call Thursday, January 31, 2008 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, 4200 First Avenue NE, Cedar Rapids. Friends may also visit one hour prior to the funeral on Friday at the church. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband Bill Travis, Sr., sons Steve Travis of Cedar Rapids, and Bill Travis and wife Ruth of Eden Prairie MN; grand daughters Sarah and Abby Travis; brothers Pat Gottsch and wife Charlotte, Bud Gottsch and wife Anita, Virgil Gottsch and wife Judy, and Lyle Gottsch and wife Carrie; step brother-in-law Lawrence Guyett and wife Barb; and special friends Eileen Kidder and Marge Young.
She was preceded in death by her parents Arthur and Mary Gottsch, a brother Bob, sisters Rosemary and Opal, brother-in-law Keith Travis, step brothers-in-law Jack Guyett, Phillip Guyett, Kenneth Guyett, Max Guyett, and Dick Guyett, and step sisters-in-law Dorothy Lohrmann, and Helen Larby; and special friend Mary Olson.
Betty Jean Travis was born January 25, 1928 in Bennington, Nebraska the beloved daughter of Arthur and Mary Gottsch. She was united in marriage to William Dean Travis on June 2, 1950 in Omaha, Nebraska. She was an active golfer at the Elmcrest Country Club for many years and won several ladies golf championships. She also had played in many state womens golf tournaments. She was also involved with a bridge club, and was an avid reader. She was a member of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church. Betty will forever be remembered as a person of great character, integrity, and honesty, and was greatly dedicated to her husband, sons, and two granddaughters.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Bettys honor be made to the American Cancer Society, 4080 First Avenue NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402
