Laurine Kathryn Taylor, 90, of 3031 Canton Drive SE in Cedar Rapids died Sunday, January 6, 2008 at her home following a sudden decline in her health during a determined battle with cancer. Graveside Services: 10:00 A.M. Monday, January 14th at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. The Rev. Mark Osterhaus of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church will officiate. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry of Salt Lake City, Utah and Tom of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, George N. Taylor, in 2003.
Laurine was born to John and Clara Badding in Urbana, Iowa on February 21, 1917. After graduating from St. Patrick’s High School and Cedar Rapids Business College, she was employed at Hawkeye Lumber Company until her marriage on August 16, 1941. She moved to her home on Canton Drive at that time and became a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. In the intervening years she raised her family and was a dedicated homemaker while greatly enjoying the nearby wildlife and outdoors in this hilly, wooded part of town. She was an active member and served as an officer in the Marion Chapter of TOPS since joining the group in 1970. Friends and family will remember her love of flower gardening, careful craftsmanship, and fascinating collection of owl figurines. Those experiencing her loss will miss her inspirational attitude in meeting life’s challenges while being a supportative companion and loving mother.
Memorials may be made to Camp Courageous of Iowa.
