Dear Rod, David and families, I was very saddened to learn of your Dad's death. I enjoyed knowing your dad in all my years at H & R Block. He was a character and loved to talk. I learned a lot about his business beginnings and a lot about you guys! When I first started working there, I thought he was a grouchy bear but as I got to know him I realized he was just a big ole teddy bear in disguise! On this Thanksgiving Day, may you be thankful for all the years you had with him and be able to share and enjoy your stories about him. My condolences to all of you. Sherrie Kopecky

I rented from Ray since 1987 at 1420 1st ave ne. We had alot of good bull sessions when Ray & I were the only two in the building on many Sat. & Sundays. I'm thankful that Ray allowed me to bring my greyhounds to the office. He often came upstairs with KFC biscuits for them. I learned alot from Ray & started missing him when he moved his office out of this building. He talked alot about his sons & grandkids & was very proud of all of them. Sincerely, Frank Weinstein

Ray was a decent man who I enjoyed working around for a short time.He was a hardworking person who cared alot about his family.I remember him saying the one thing he hoped to see in kids and other people is that they learn to get along with others. I could see that he taught it very well in two of his sons that I worked with for a short time.

To the entire family; Ray was an incrediable man who I loved and looked up to dearly. We would have indepth LONG talks about his life and all of his acomplishments but nothing held a candle to his committment and feelings for his dear friends and mostly his entire family. He would give you the shirt off of his back if you needed it, but we all know how extremely kind Ray was. Ray, you will be missed and your legacy will live on forever!!! God Bless, Libby

Rod & David, I just learned of your father's passing when I read the Shrine newsletter. Pat & I were in California prior to Thanksgiving visiting relatives. I have fond memories of your Dad & 37th Street. The movie passes, just chatting as we would walk by, or at Shrine meetings. And then I got to know him even better at H & R Block. Actually looked forward to doing the tax returns as it gave me the opportunity to visit with your Dad again. He made a lot of contributions to Cedar Rapids. Always a smile on his face. You were fortunate to be able to call him Dad. I'm sure he will be missed, but may you be blessed with a lifetime of memories. Don Boland
