We became friends with John and Cindy through his sister Gina and her family. Over the years we enjoyed John's friendship and terrific sense of humor. He attended a couple of our annual get-togethers and was always the hit of the party. We will miss that friendship very much. We would like to extend our heartfelt sympathy to his wife Cindy, son Dan and his family and daughter Jen and her good friend David. It goes without saying--if there is anything at all that we can do to help, we will be there. Our hearts go out to all of John's family. Thank you for the terrific memories John. You will be missed by all of us more than you know. Friends, Bob and Pati Davis

We were very saddened to hear of Johnny’s passing. Johnny was a guy that you just wanted to be around, always smiling and cracking jokes. He also gave me some good advice that I will cherish forever. My dear uncle John, So much I want to say to you. I love you so much. So many memories of you in my life. You were one of the few constants in my life with my always moving around. You always put up with my silliness and dramatic ways. Sorry for that, but still you always understood me. You always loved me unconditionally. I hope you know that I will always love you the same. I will miss you in my life on earth, but I will be with you again some day. Until then, know that I will always love you and I will always be thankful for having you in my life. I will be better with staying in touch with Aunt Cindy, Jen and Danny. I will make you that promise. I love you and will miss you. To Aunt Cindy, Jen and Danny....I love you all so much! Your loving niece, Tammy

John, You will be sorely missed. I always seemed to see you around X-Mas so naturally during BCS time. I will miss all the football discussion. The one time we made it the golf course together will always be a great memory for me, not only because it was the first time I ever managed a par, but because of the truly great time we had together. You were the best. Rick

We have memories of being together at Uncle John and Aunt Cindy's around the New Year while watching the Hawkeyes play in the bowl game, hanging out and spending rare time together. We realize that we need to spend as much time with our family as we can, because life can't be that busy not to make time for the ones we love. We love you and we miss you Uncle John. Cheer the Hawks on from Heaven above.

My fondest memories are those when our parents would get together with grandma Ellen and grandpa Shorty - and they would drink and play cards and us kids would sneak out to the cematary and throw apples at semis. We would leave food when we thought that the homeless were hanging out there and often didn't come home till after midnight - but the parents and the grandparents thought we were in bed. Oh the days! He will be greatly missed.

You left so quickly, it's hard to believe you are gone. I know the pain you have left your loved ones with but I also know you are forever in their hearts as Al is forever in mine. You've already shown Cindy you are still and always will be with her. I know you will continue to be there to talk things out with her and even to listen when she feels the need to yell at you and to chew you out for leaving so soon. I know too that you will continue to make her smile and laugh, and remember the memories the two of you made together. Cindy, cherish the memories of your life together and the memories you will continue to create. If you need anything or just want someone to listen while you talk, call me and I'll be there. I know the pain and anguish you are feeling, maybe I can help to ease it a little. Dan & Jen, my thoughts and prayers are also with you. Remember you can still talk to him, scream at him and laugh with him when he does some little thing at the oddest moment to remind you he's still there for you too and that he'll always love you. P.S. John, I know I will forever think of you when I hear thunder because I'll know you have done or said something that will have all the angels in heaven rolling in the clouds.
