Dixie Lee Ray, 67, of Marion died Thursday, October 11, 2007 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha following a long illness. Services: 1:00 P.M. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Sunday from 2PM to 5PM. The Rev. Dennis Sackett of Prairie Creek Christian Church in Vinton will officiate.
Survivors include a daughter, Lori L. Morgan Kevin of Marion; a grandson, Joseph "Joe" Morgan of Marion; her mother, Fern Wheeler of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Judy Boardman Del of Walker; three special cousins, Mary Alice Cejka of Hiawatha, Donna Sturdevant of Kansas City, MO and Marilyn Apland of Cambridge; two nieces, Kelley Cooney of Marion and Heather Miller of Cedar Rapids; a nephew, Kerry Miller of Cedar Rapids; and a special aunt, Zelma O'Neal of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her father and her husband Charles.
Dixie was born August 3, 1940 in Center Point, the daughter of Mark E. and Veta "Fern" Longfellow Wheeler. She married Charles J. Ray on October 24, 1959 in Marion. Dixie was a Washington High School graduate and attended the St. Luke's School of Nursing. She was a nurse at Winslow House Care Center. Dixie was a very devoted mother, daughter, and sister. She will be forever missed, but never forgotten. Her strength will be eternally remembered.
