Helen Louise Oehler, 82, formerly from Cedar Rapids, died at Mercy Medical Center, Sioux City, Friday, October 5, 2007 after a brief illness. Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home by Jerry Fehlhafer of First Church of Christ, Scientist. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Helen Louise is survived by her husband, Orville; son Steve, his wife Mary, and their children Jocelyn O'Connor and her husband Michael, and Harold Firster; daughter, Kathy Kelly, her husband Roger, and their children Kristin Chmiel and her husband Brian, and Nathan Kelly and his wife Jenica; and son Dr. David Oehler, his wife Erin and their daughters Miranda, Olivia and Marina. Other survivors include her brother Dr. George Zimmerman, sister Elsie Oehler, and their families.

Helen Louise was born February 17, 1925 in Amana, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Helen Zimmerman. She married Orville Oehler July 28, 1946. The couple farmed in the Cedar Rapids area until retiring to Sioux City, Iowa in 1995. A student of the Christian Science faith, she was elected to membership in The First Church of Christ, Scientist in June 1951. After extensive religious study in 1970 she held the office of Christian Science Practitioner for 15 years. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2006.
