To JIm's family, I am so shocked to hear of Jim's passing. It was just a few nights ago when Jim and I shook hands at Cottage Grove Place in the dining room. It had been some 30 years since we had seen each other and it was a pleasure to see that Jim Young smile again. You have my understanding and sympathy. Keep your Faith and remember the good times. My best regards, Bob

Tootie and Family, The memories of growing up surrounded by dear friends such as Jim are many. The many meals shared, home masses, trips, visits when you lived away from C.R. and all the parties and special events are all a part of my special memories. Jim was always the steadying force, the gentle, loving advisor, quick with a word of encouragement and always a sense of humor. He was so kind and helpful to me when Dad's condo was destroyed and I got to come to Florida to try and sort out that mess of belongings! I know he will be missed, but what a full and joyful life. I know he is smiling now,and probably trying to get my mother to learn to play golf with him.

Aunt Tootie, Jeff, Jon, Missy and Martha and your children: My heart goes out to all of you. Words cannot begin to explain how very sorry I am. I know there is nothing that I can say that could possibly make you feel any better, but just know how much my family and I love Uncle Jim and we pray to God to give you all strength and guidance in understanding God's plan for Uncle Jim. We all know he will fill a very important role in heaven as he did as husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend many more roles than I could list during his life. My family and I love you all very very much and have great admiration for your strong, close, faithful, and loving family. I know how much you will need each other and how lucky you are to have such a strong family. Please let me know if there is anything I could do in any way to help. Love, Monica Bahl Vanstralen along with Eric, Laura, Lindsey and Billy

Martha, Toots, Jeff, Jon, and Missy, Your father and husband was truly one of the neatest guys! I loved Mr. Young. I have fond memories of overnights at your house Marth!!!!!!!! Your dad would have to tell us to be quiet about 35 times! I can still hear him, "MARRRTHAAA" as we'd giggle in the screened in porch.I remember the fun memories at Elmcrest. Girls Club Overnight when our parents would come and watch us do the talent portion. You sang, "Come to the Caberet...... and Bye Bye Birdie" Your dad had a twinkle in his eye when he'd watch his baby girl. VERY PROUD! Or when Toots and Jim would come and get you out of the pool to go to Family Twilight golf.I always thought that was SO cool The 4th of July was always a hoot with your folks. Those memories will never go away and you will remember these times and smile and cry. He set an amazing example for you kids. He had that sweet gentle voice. Such a kind man. My heart goes out to you. He's been greeted by Dick and Mare and our wonderful Lord. He's in a GREAT PLACE. Have some peace knowing that! I love you Marth! You all take care of yourselves and especially your mom, Tootie. She's a strong and wonderful woman. She'll need you guys! God Bless! Kathy Roonie Bird Keel Moeder

Tootie & Family; It was with great sadness that I learned of the passing of sweet Jim. I shall always remember our fun times together at the Board dinners in Fla. and his endless great jokes. His jokes were the highlight of my visits. How fortunate you two were to love each other so much. It was always very evident of his love for you . God Bless you and all the family and again my deepest sympathy. Always, Pat

Tootie, Jeff, Jon, Missy & Martha We were so shocked to hear of Jim's death, we are on a trip in New England now and feel so bad that we will be unable to attend the service for Jim. Jim and all of you were so much a part of my life every day for the many years that I worked with him. I owe Jim an unmeasureable debt of gratitude. He believed in me and offered me opportunites that led to a great career. Ron & I are so happy that he introduced us to Ft Myers Beach, Florida. I have so many memories of him and all of you, those many "crisis" phone calls from you kids looking for Dad while Mom was at work, the jokes that I heard many times, the Christmas brunches and many more. A wonderful man that I know you will all miss very much...He was so proud of his family. May your faith sustain you at this time. Treasure your memories.

I'll never forget the first day we met Jim. Marilyn and I came to eastern Iowa to check out a job opportunity at a radio station licensed to "some town with rapids in it". It was July of 1979 and we were anticipating the birth of our first child. Less than a month later, Jim graciously offered us that job. Looking back on it now, I can really trace God's hand in all that's happened since those days. From the beginning, Jim believed in me as a person and willingly taught me the ropes of professional radio broadcasting. The fact that Cedar Rapids remains home some 28 years later is significant, I think. Eastern Iowa feels like home because Jim and Tootie made it home for the Calcara's from the first day we moved into that little 3 bedroom ranch in Marion. It seems like yesterday! As boss, mentor, friend and "father", Jim Young will always be one of the most important people in my life. From Jim, I learned the importance of balancing family and work. It was Jim who regularly reminded me to "work smarter, not harder" providing gentle coaching over a cup of coffee in his office every morning. Time will not allow me to share all that I learned but the most significant lessons were the ones that marked our relationship as brothers. You see, because Jim allowed me the privilege of knowing him as my "brother in Christ", I could learn spiritual lessons from him as well...lessons that transcend the principles of business. Few people would have risked having such meaningful fellowship with a subordinate. But not Jim. To him, it was worth the risk. For example, it was Jim who once shared with me that it was fairly easy for him as a Christian to believe that Jesus was God, but much harder to believe that He was a man as well. And yet His humanity is what makes Him a reachable God! Thank you Jim, for freely sharing the deepest part of yourself to someone like me. Today we smile knowing that you're rejoicing with the angels in heaven always reaching greens in regulation; never to "three putt" again. I am proud to have been part of the "Tim and Jim Show" for 16 wonderful years. I shall miss you. We shall miss you. Tootie, thanks so much for sharing "JY" with us. Marilyn and I are praying for you and your family in this time of grieving. Love, "Timmy" John 6:39-40

Martha and the Young Family, I am so sorry to hear about the loss of Jim. I just love the Young family and have so many wonderful memories of hanging out at your home in my childhood and teenage years. I told my husband that Jim was one of the first people to talk with me about Jesus. And I know he was being used by God to bring me into a more personal relationship with Him. Your family will be in our prayers over the upcoming days/years as you just celebrate the life of your dad/husband. All my love.
