Beatrice L. Thomas, 84, of Manor Care died there on Tuesday Aug. 28, 2007 of COPD. Services at 11 AM on Friday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Laura Smith will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday.

Survivors include two daughters, Robin Timus Galli, Judy Gordon and a son, John Kathy Thomas all of Cedar Rapids; three sisters Jeanette Bob Elgin of Center Point, Lela Keith Reif and Arlene Thomas all of Cedar Rapids, and a brother, Bob Bowler Jr. of Phoenix, AZ. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Scott Deb Rathjens of Whittier, David Stephanie Rathjens of Hilliard, OH., Dan Jessica Gordon of Robins, Shelley Tom Martin of Bernard, Mindy Rathjens of Eldridge, Lisa Cook of Cedar Rapids, Jennifer Gordon and her significant other, Tim Maher, of Hamburg and Shane Thomas of Cedar Rapids; fourteen great grandchildren, Autumn Rathjens of Whitter, Jake, and Lauren Rathjens of Hilliard, OH, Madison, Cole, and Seyla Gordon of Robins, Dalton Breckenridge, Payton Akers and Baleigh Martin of Bernard, Ashley and Brittney Cook of Cedar Rapids and Morgen, Masen, and Macket Nelson of Hamburg, a brother-in-law, Earl Pat Thomas of Cedar Rapids and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, in-laws, Edwin and Myrtle Thomas, brother, George Bowler, sister-in-law, Earlene Bowler, brothers-in-law, Lamont Thomas and Racine Thomas, nieces, Susie Elgin and Janice Hughes.

Beatrice was born on March 5, 1923 in Minneapolis, MN., the daughter of Robert and Dora Furman Bowler Sr. She married Edwin H. Thomas Jr. on Aug. 7, 1943 in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1980. Beatrice was a homemaker. She did volunteer work at St. Lukes Hospital for over 35 years and Meals on Wheels for 2 years. She was a member of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church and the Eagles Club. She enjoyed dancing, gardening, bowling and time spent with her beloved family, especially her grand and great grandchildren. A memorial fund has been established in Beatrice's name.
