Donald Henry Newkirk, 81, of 1725 L Avenue, Marengo, died at the Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg, Monday, February 5, 2007, after a brief illness. There will be no services. Inurnment at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Homestead will be at a later date. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his sister, Verna Koenig of Marengo; his nieces and nephews; and his dear friend, Chris Moore of Evans, CO.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a brother, Wayne.

Donald was born January 17, 1926 in Williamsburg to Elmer and Linda Pundt Newkirk. He married Katherine Gordon on February 19, 1947 at Rock Island, IL. She died in 1995. Donald was a Navy veteran of WWII, serving in the South Pacific as a Pharmacist's Mate 3rd Class. He was a truck driver for both Kings Concrete and Central Concrete.
